You must be wondering why the title of the blog sounds so different than the title of other blogs? Well, the title is nothing but this year’s World Asthma Day’s theme by WHO. If you ask a person who does not have much ideas about Asthma, he would say that it is a disease which leads to breathing problems.
But what Asthma actually is we all are unaware of.
The main motto behind writing this piece is to educate people about Asthma. There are an estimated 300 million asthmatic patients worldwide with 1/10th of those living in India. But you might be wondering if this is the case then what is our healthcare system doing against the prevalence of this disease and also for rising awareness against it? Many of the multispecialty hospitals conduct awareness camps along with guiding the patients and consulting them to fight odds against the disease. Just like KRIMS Hospitals, Nagpur organized an Asthma Education Program on the 1st of May 2018. Dr Sameer Arbat, Consultant Pulmonologist educated the audience on the topic of ‘How to Control Asthma’. Not only did Dr Sameer in his talk mentioned about the triggering factors of Asthma but also mentioned points regarding how to avoid them. He demonstrated the inhaler techniques and stressed about the importance of correct inhaler technique.”Treatment of Asthma is of long duration and most patients discontinue their medication leading to the worsening of the disease. It is important to educate people about the disease for it ’s better treatment and for its management “, commented Dr Sameer Arbat. As we all know, the Department of Pulmonology at KRIMS Hospitals is a pioneer department for respiratory care and caters to around more than a thousand Asthma patients every year and also give education for asthma. But the best part about them is that Dr Sameer Arbat conducts an ‘Asthma Education Program’ every Tuesday, free of cost for patients and their relatives. Till now more than two thousand patients have been benefited from this regular activity which definitely explains their active participation against prevention and awareness of this disease.
